So, now that you've read about the news regarding your
group topic, what do you think? Remember that, even though you might not be entirely interested in the topic of news, there are things that relate to this idea which you should consider. What experiences have you had in your life that are similar to what happened here? Do you know anyone who has been impacted by this event or something related to it? Think about what you would do if you had to come up with a way to deal with what has happened
(say, you were the President of a school or Junior Mayor in the town where this event occurred). How would you deal with the issues facing the people involved? What actions would be best to help deal with this situation? What would you do now that you have the information in the article? Did the author of the article report
facts or just try to influence you with their
opinion? Ring leaders will be busy writing questions which will create a discussion that somehow relates to the article - what questions do you think would spark a great conversation about it?
Remember to write which article title you read at the beginning of your paragraph:
- A Gathering of Leaders
- Shaken Up
- Students Talk Health at the White House
- Touchdown for Technology
- Tragedy in West Virginia Coal Mine
Get ready for great discussions Thursday morning, 4/22/10! C U then :)
Article: Touchdown for Technology
ReplyDeleteI think it's very generous of Samsung to donate all that money, but I also think that it could distract lots of kids from learning. Lots of people I know would start playing on the computers, laptops, etc. instead of doing their work. If your school did win the money, you would have to monitor the use of the new technology. Schools would be very fortunate to receive the money. You could buy faster computers, modern technology to make learning more fun, and if you don't have to spend the money on technology, more books!
Did you read about how the state of NC has set the new budget to include financing hand-held technology for school classrooms to issue to their students? Imagine everyone walking around with a Palm or iTouch during the school day - what kind of impact would that have on your school day?
ReplyDeleteThat's a scary thought!! Kids would be even more distracted and it would be harder monitor what kids were doing on such small devices. There would also be even more cyber-bullying!!
ReplyDeleteMan on the Moon-
ReplyDeleteI did not like this article. We already know what happened to the first man on the moon. But I do like this one line in the article "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." I disagree with returning to the moon, we now what's there. There isn't much there. We should be trying to go to other planets, Mars, Jupiter, Mercury, maybe Pluto. In a couple decades we could be out of this galaxy.
Tragedy in West Virginia Coal Mine-
ReplyDeleteThe coal mining article was boring but we had a very interesting discussion. I would not want to be a miner. I would not like going to work thinking I might not come home alive. But, if I was the president I would allow mining. We have so much coal we should use it. There are people in the world who will do that service. I plan to help the world in a different way. What else could we use besides coal to make electricity?
